The meaning of song lyrics

Do you think that knowing the meaning of your lyrics adds to the enjoyment of the song?

I ask this because I often have no idea of what a fair few songs in my collection mean, I was brought up on Yes , and it doesn't seem to get in the way of my enjoyment.

Do you ever write with half an eye on whether anyone will "get" the meaning?
